Course Description

To become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), in New York State, one must attend and graduate from a school that is licensed by both the NYS Education Department and the NYS Department of Health.

A CNA is responsible for assisting the physicians, nurses, and other supervisory medical staff members that care for the patient. It is the job of the CNA to help the patient with basic care tasks including making their bed, helping them to groom themselves, monitor vital signs, and assisting the supervising medical staff with any procedures they may be performing.
The correct term is a Certified Nurse Assistant, but oftentimes the word “aide” is used as well as a variety of other similar terms like Resident Assistant, Caregiver, Orderly, Assistant Nurse, and Hospital Aide, but all of these titles refer to the position of a CNA.
Once you have completed your CNA training in NYC, and passed your Certification Exam, under the law you will be able to work as a CNA in New York. In order to work in any other states, you will first need to be approved by that state. In order to move your certification, you will need to ask the new state to recognize your CNA certification granted by New York.
